At A Giant’s Early Learning Center, every theme we choose is more than just fun—it’s an intentional way to help children grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Animal Adventures Week wasn’t just about cute crafts and dress-up days—it was about teaching empathy, responsibility, and curiosity about the world around us.
📚 Discovering Animals Through Books & Stories
We started our week with animal-themed storytimes—exploring pets, zoo animals, and wildlife through engaging books and interactive read-alouds. Children joined in with animal sounds, guessed what might happen next, and connected the stories to their own experiences.
💡 Why we do this: Reading about animals develops language and listening skills, builds vocabulary, and nurtures imagination. It also encourages children to ask questions—an essential part of developing critical thinking.
🎨 Crafting, Pretend Play & Creative Expression
Our classrooms transformed into a hub of creativity with animal mask making, paw print painting, and pretend animal habitats. Dress-up days encouraged children to role-play as zookeepers, veterinarians, and wildlife explorers.
💡 Why we do this: Crafting supports fine motor development and hand-eye coordination, while pretend play builds social skills, problem-solving abilities, and emotional understanding.
🐻 Teddy Bear Petting Zoo & Wildlife Day
The highlight of the week was our hands-on Teddy Bear Petting Zoo and Wildlife Day. Whether “caring” for stuffed animals or meeting special animal guests, children practiced empathy and learned about the basic needs of living things—food, water, shelter, and love.
💡 Why we do this: Caring for animals, even in a pretend setting, teaches responsibility, compassion, and respect for other living beings—values that carry into their relationships with people.

We sent families a list of animal-themed books and tips for introducing children to pet care in age-appropriate ways.
